Fluor's Computer Room

Fluor's Sugar Land campus

Rice & Gardner Consultants provided the design for an emergency HVAC system in the main server room at Fluor’s 1 million square foot facility in Sugar Land, Texas. The project consisted of the addition of dual coil computer room air conditioning units (CRAC) and associated condensing units on the roof of the building.

Under normal operating conditions the CRAC units would utilize the chilled water system of the existing central plant. Controls provided through the building automation system permit the CRAC units to become isolated from the central plant and automatically switch over to the dx coil in each unit either on a scheduled basis or during a loss of facility power.

A 350kW generator provides the dedicated power to both CRAC and condensing units during a loss of power condition. Aesthetic screen walls were designed for the roof to obstruct the view of the condensing units from the existing tenants. In addition the existing fire detection and halon fire protection system were replaced with a new clean agent fire extinguishing system to meet current codes and standards.
