Both Patt Neff Elementary School and Ed White Elementary School were identified as schools needing extensive repair and renovation. HISD determined that a new relief school would be built to serve Neff and White Elementary students. Rice & Gardner's project team is developing the MEP engineering contract documents for this new 84,000 square foot elementary school. One of the exciting parts of this project is HISD's goal to earn a minimum "LEED - Certified" rating for this school. Rice & Gardner is making sure that the design and construction are done in such a way as to optimize energy efficiency. To obtain the optimize energy credit through LEED, an energy model of the annual energy consumption in the building must show an increased performance and a reduction in environmental and economic impact. The finished building will definitely be a green school of the future!
